The mask has appeared in many places throughout the world since the beginning of mankind. From the oldest documents and manuscripts left behind, such as the carvings and cave paintings of the stone Age,we see scenes with hunters wearing animal heads and masks. Primitive man performed magic rituals and masked dances to influence the outcome of their hunting which was an essential activity for the survival of society of that day. The mask was used as a catalyst of the mysterious forces that man worshipped and used for his own practical purposes. However, their practices only lasted until the society reached a certain level of spiritual and material development. Thereafter more effective methods were used to harness the forces of nature for man's own needs.
