Since April 1840, China saw herself fight one of the most gruesome wars ever in her history. The British had decided to expand further eastwards. And this time they had fixed their attention on China. But the Chinese too, a class of exceptional warriors, had decided not to give in without a fight to the very finish. And that is what makes this war an all-time classic. 
Not only did the author, Lieutenant John Ouchterlony, FGS of the Madras Army account for every formation and every foray by both armies during this war, he also captured the images of this historical event through some beautiful illustration, fifty-three of which have been recounted in this book. Surely, a pleasant read and a sight for the eyes.
