Lt Gen JS Bajwa

Lt. General J,S. Bajwa was commissioned into the Infantry in 1973. In the course of his military career, he has served along all the borders of his country. His interest in the India–China border was initiated when he was posted to the Scouts in Uttar Pradesh (now Uttranchal) in 1982. As a colonel, he was assigned the responsibility of dealing with the India–China border from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, at the Military Operations Directorate, army headquarters, from 1997 to 2000. He was also the military representative in the Experts Group dealing with the delineation of the line of actual control and the military activities related to it. He was also posted to the army’s Perspective Planning Directorate, where he was assigned the task to assess the Chinese military capability and potential, which could manifest as a threat to India. He has been chief of staff of the army’s Eastern Command, which is primarily responsible for managing the contentious border problem with China in Arunachal Pradesh.
