As you may have heard, our Pilgrims Book House at Kathmandu, located in the crowded tourist area of Thamel was completely destroyed by fire on 16 May, 2013. The fire was so devastating that it took nearly eighteen hours to bring it under control and even then, smoke could be seen rising from the ashes after eighteen days or so.
Many of you who visited this place will remember it as more than a bookshop, for we had in our store exquisite pieces of art and handicrafts. We had also built up a large collection of rare books and manuscripts.
It had taken us over thirty years to bring this bookshop to the position it held. We, ourselves, realized that the magnitude of the loss and the affection in which we were held by our friends and well-wishers when we saw their reaction expressed through emails and messages on the internet. Some of them comparing it to the destruction of the libraries in ancient Nalanda and Alexandria.
It has taken us some time to overcome the magnitude of this loss and sense of grief. And now that we have composed ourselves with a resolution to revive our set up to the best possible extent and glory.
For this, we are fortunate to have as our starting point a smaller bookshop located on the same road (JP Road) not far from the original Pilgrims Book House. (You may see the map in below)
This is only to request you to continue patronizing Pilgrims and also help in whatever way you can. This you can do by sending your suggestions and contributions by donating pieces of art, books etc.
We can be contacted at email@example.com or on the phone at (977-1) 4221546 or on mobile no. +977-9803926019.
Needless to say, we will be forever grateful for your contribution and will remember your act of kindness and support in our hour of need and distress.
